A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged serious assault in Johnstone centre yesterday afternoon.

The victim, a 45-year-old man, was taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he received treatment for life-threatening injuries. Medics have described his condition as serious but stable.

A 47-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged serious assault and officers confirmed that enquiries are ongoing.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Houstoun Square in Johnstone at around 3.45pm on Thursday, March 23, after a 45-year-old man was assaulted.

“He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he received treatment for life-threatening injuries. His condition remains serious but stable at this time.

“A 47-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.”
