Families can have a bloomin’ great time at the Braehead Centre over the Easter holidays.
The popular shopping mall is harnessing flower power and the amazing skills of origami and paper folding experts to give shoppers a spring in their step.
There are free workshops for kids and grown-ups to learn the skills of origami and other arts and crafts every day between 11am and 3pm from now until April 16, in the lower mall near the food court.
And as part of the centre’s Paper Art Exhibition, five giant murals with a flower and spring theme have been created throughout the centre.
Expert paper folding artist and designer, Glasgow-based Kate Colin will give a free live demonstration of her artwork on April 1 and 2, between 11am and 3pm and also host some of the workshops throughout the 16-day event. Kate is well known for using paper folding techniques and intricate scoring to create lighting installations and wall art.
Shoppers can step into the Braehead in Bloom garden area, where giant crepe paper flowers have sprouted. There will also be a Flower Wall with flowers of different textures creating a three-dimensional mural on a backdrop of painted leaves.
These are the picture-perfect places for shoppers to have their photo, or selfie taken. And there’s the chance to win a £25 gift card if they share their picture on social media, tagging @Braeheadcentre and it’s featured on Braehead’s social media channels.
Shoppers also have the chance to win a £50 gift card every day of the event to spend in one of the stores at Braehead.
All they have to do is find the letter hidden on each of the five murals that will make up a word and enter by picking up a Spring Trail booklet at any of the murals, scan the QR code and complete the competition entry form online.
Visitors to Braehead can also witness a giant thistle and gorse bush flower being created from paper in the centre on April 1, between 11am and 4pm and April 2, between 10am and 2pm.
Braehead’s Centre Director, Peter Beagley said: “Braehead is blooming this spring in more ways than one. We’ve got the hottest new spring and summer styles in our fashion stores and for Easter, the centre will be accessorised with blooms made by hugely talented origami artists and paper folders.
“We’ve got something for all ages during the Easter holidays and visitors to Braehead will be amazed to see the results of the origami and paper folding skills on show.
“And if you take part in one of our workshops you’ll be able to take your paper folding artwork home to show family and friends.”
