A banned driver fled from a police chase on the opposite side of a motorway.
Barry Miller, 47, made off from officers in Barrhead, East Renfrewshire, on 17th February 2023.
Officers clocked Miller’s green van driving towards the M77 and wished to stop him for a document check.
The police car – which was behind the van – put on the lights but the vehicle continued to drive on.
As both cars entered the M77, Miller swerved from a slip road across both lanes of traffic while police kept a safe distance.
Miller continued on the M74 before coming off in Glasgow’s Polmadie then went back on.
Prosecutor Emma Baker said: “Police broadcast radio was heard to say Miller entered the wrong side of the motorway at the junction.”
Officers decided to tactically push the van on to crash barriers before it could reach the motorway.
Miss Baker added: “The action immobilised both vehicles with Miller’s coming to a rest a short distance away from the live lane motorway.
“There was extensive damage to the police car.”
Miller was then arrested.
He stated to officers: “I mean, what were you going to do? Chase me down the motorway the wrong way?”
A check found that Miller was disqualified from driving.
He pled guilty today/yesterday at Glasgow Sheriff Court to dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.
Sentence was deferred until next month by Sheriff Andrew McIntyre.
