A music event is to be held at the University of West of Scotland’s Paisley student union tomorrow night.
This event has been organised by UWS LGBTQIA+ students’ society and will raise funds for the group and charty Stonewall Scotland.
There will be three live music acts, Shaz Martin, Joseph Miller, and Tess De Marco (pictured above). Shaz Martin was one of the performers at the Pride Hub at MardiGla this year.
The fun will continue with a DJ until late.
The LGBTQIA+ Society was established at the beginning of the year and is open to all self-defining LGBTQIA+ students & their allies studying at any UWS Campus.
LGBTQIA+ Society President Alex McGuire told Renfrewshire News: “The society exists to bring LGBTQIA+ students together, helping them where necessary in regard to supporting them come out, direct them towards counselling where required, helping them realise they are not alone & campaign on issues affecting our community.
“The list is endless to be honest, all our society executive team are students at UWS themselves who have volunteered alongside our own studies to support others to help them have a better standard of life, get advice & hopefully fight for full equality in every aspect of student life and beyond.
“We also have space for people who perhaps didn’t choose higher education & went straight into fulltime work, we are here for them also if they require access to the local LGBTQIA+ community.”
Alex added: “Hopefully for everyone we can be the link between feeling or actually being alone and living life to the fullest regardless of your sexual orientation or gender identity.”
As well as UWS students, everyone has been invited to attend the event at UWS Paisley Campus student union at Storie Street, Paisley on Thursday 21th of September. The show starts at 7.30pm until late.
