After nine years as the elected representative for Paisley & Renfrewshire North SNP MP Gavin Newlands celebrated his 1000th surgery.
This week the local MP celebrated the milestone by welcoming constituents and local councillors to his constituency office in Renfrew for a coffee morning.
“After nearly 9 years as MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, I’ve tried to be as accessible as possible to every constituent. This constituency has never had an SNP MP before, and I’ve made sure voters know the party – and myself – are there to serve them as best we can.
“To that end, I have the biggest programme of advice surgeries of any MP in the UK, with 14 in total every month across the constituency.
“Even through COVID and lockdown, I carried on that accessibility through virtual surgeries via video conferencing and on the phone, a service I’ve continued to offer to this day.
“Despite the growth of email and social media to get in touch, face to face surgeries are still a vital part of my job and I am all too aware that for many, attending my regular surgeries is not an option.”
Gavin added: “That is why over the last year I have also undertaken street surgeries where I attend constituents’ homes and local areas. This alleviates any barriers and allows me to see first-hand some of the concerns they are looking to discuss.
“I hope to be able to continue offering this variety of surgeries following the next election.”
