The Liberal Democrats at their conference last weekend in York passed their new Sport for the People motion that calls for the UK government to expand the list of sporting fixtures which must have live coverage made available to free-to-air channels.

This includes ensuring that the list of women’s sporting fixtures made available to free-to-air channels mirrors men’s.

Liberal Democrat candidate for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, Grant Toghill, thinks that this policy motion passing is great news and in particular the inclusion of a set number of Scottish Premiership and Championship football matches.

Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, Grant Toghill, said: “I am delighted to see our party pass a new policy to push for more fixtures to free-to-air channels including Scottish Premiership and Scottish Championship matches.

“Being brought up in the West of Scotland it is easy to know how much of a part sport play in our communities.

“Sport truly does bring people together and having more moments that people can view together is a great thing to be pushing for.”
