Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar MSP was in Renfrewshire twice this weekend to back Labour’s local General Election candidates.

On Saturday, Mr Sarwar attended Lilias Day in Kilbarchan with the area’s candidate Johanna Baxter and on Sunday he was at Renfrew Gala Day with Alison Taylor, the candidate for that area.

The Scottish Labour leader spoke to local residents, organisations and small businesses at both events.

Commenting on his visit, Anas Sarwar said: “I always love visiting Renfrewshire having worked here as an NHS dentist.

“Renfrewshire is a great community but it has been let down by the SNP and Tories for far too long.

“On 4th July, people in Renfrewshire, like people across Scotland, have the opportunity to choose change with Labour over more chaos and division with the SNP and Tories.

“A vote for Labour’s Johanna Baxter and Alison Taylor is a vote for economic stability, a vote to help cut NHS waiting times and a vote to create green jobs and cut bills with our GB energy plans.

“Instead of just sending a message, people here can elect Labour MPs in Johanna and Alison who will get things done and send a Labour Government that will maximise Renfrewshire and Scotland’s influence.

“The SNP and Tories will provide more of the same, a vote for Labour is a vote for change.”

Johanna Baxter, candidate for Paisley and Renfrewshire South said: “I have been in hundreds of streets, speaking to thousands of local people over the last few months. It is clear that people in Paisley and Renfrewshire South need and want change.

“It was great to have Anas Sarwar in the constituency backing my campaign. I have been a Unison trade union official for many years standing up for and fighting for working people.

“If elected, I will always stand up for local people and for Renfrewshire.”

Alison Taylor, Labour candidate for Paisley and Renfrewshire North said “Renfrewshire needs change and we need a Labour Government.

“I would be proud to represent Paisley and Renfrewshire North as a Labour MP but more importantly being part of a Labour Government can help deliver real change for Renfrewshire.

“As someone who has worked in business for many years, I want to use my experience to deliver more investment and jobs to our community.

“It was fantastic to have Anas Sarwar supporting the local campaign here in Paisley and Renfrewshire North.

“Our message of change is resonating with voters and I will be working flat out to earn the trust of local people.”
