Renfrewshire charity ACCORD Hospice welcomed Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care Neil Gray to its Paisley facilities.
Mr Gray met with ACCORD staff and patients today on Thursday to hear about the work they do to support the people of Renfrewshire, re-enforcing his commitment to support hospices and hospice care across Scotland.
Mr Gray and his delegation were warmly greeted by Chief Executive Officer Jacki Smart, who is also the chair for Scottish Hospices Leadership Group, and ACCORD Board Chair Professor Phil Hanlon. This significant visit underscores the Scottish Government’s commitment to hospice care and end-of-life care in Scotland and the potential national and local approach required to allow hospices to support NHS service delivery.
The visit included an insightful discussion about hospice care, featuring esteemed guests Helen Malo from Hospice UK and Dr David Gray from ACCORD Hospice. The conversation revolved around the challenges and opportunities within the hospice care sector, exploring ways to improve patient care and support for families.
Jacki Smart, CEO at ACCORD, expressed her gratitude for the visit, stating: “We were honoured to host Mr Gray and showcase the critical work being done at ACCORD Hospice. Mr Gray’s visit included a tour of the hospice facilities, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of the services offered at ACCORD. He also took the opportunity to meet with staff and volunteers, acknowledging their dedication and contribution to delivering exceptional care.
Dr. David Gray from ACCORD Hospice shared his insights on the evolving needs of hospice care and the importance of continuous improvement in patient care practices.
The visit concluded with a renewed commitment from all parties to work together in fostering a supportive environment for hospice care across Scotland, ensuring that every individual receives the highest standard of care at the end of their life.
