A 41-year-old man has been arrested and charged after emergency services were called to George Street, Paisley following a report of a car on fire yesterday morning.

The fire was extinguished, however a number of “suspicious items” were found in a common close of a building nearby. Specialist resources from Police Scotland assessed these and found no threat to the public.

No one was injured in the incident that took place at around 8.15am on Monday, 2nd September, 2024.

An earlier fire on Causeyside Street is also believed to be linked to the fire on George Street.

Both streets, along with Barr Place, have reopened following a brief closure while specialist officers assessed the area.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent four fire engines and specialist resources to tackle the blaze.

The 41-year-old is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court today, Tuesday, 3rd September.
