A goal by Caolan Boyd-Munce in injury-time secured St Mirren three points and a first league win over Rangers in 13 years.
St Mirren knew before the game that they hadn’t beaten Rangers in the league since 2011, but when the game started there were no signs of any nerves from the The Buddies as they settled into the game.
They looked the better side for much of the first halt, and in the 30th minute were awarded a penalty when Rangers keeper Butland bundled Greg Kiltie to the ground, up stepped Oisin Smyth to send Butland the wrong way from his spot kick to put St Mirren 1 – 0 in front.
As the first half finished it was surprising to think that Rangers had had only one shot on target – and a poor one at that.
When the second half under way Rangers put St Mirren under a lot more pressure and it was Rangers player Vaclav Cerny who was at the centre of their attacking play.
Rangers continued the pressure and it paid off and in the 61st minute Danilo scored from close range to make it 1 -1.
Trying to win the game both teams went on to hit the woodwork, and with the game drawing to close, in the third minute of injury-time St Mirren got the winner when Caolan Boyd-Munce fired a fierce low shot from outside the box into the corner of the Rangers’ net.
Full time 2 -1 to St Mirren.
A result that sees them 5th in the League and only 1 point from 4th place.
