A man has been struck by a car in Johnstone.

The road crash, described as ‘serious’ by officers, happened on Beith Road, between Midton Road and Fordbank Avenue, at around 8.30am on Sunday morning and involved a red Toyota Corolla and a pedestrian.

The 85-year-old male pedestrian was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the car was not injured.

The road was closed in both directions following the crash from 8.30am. A local diversion was put in place and the road reopened at around 3.50pm the same day.

Police Scotland have since made an appeal for witnesses.

Police Sergeant Paul Mellis of the Road Policing Unit said: “Our inquiries are continuing to understand the full circumstances of what happened.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.

“The road re-opened at 2.10pm on Sunday, 29 December, 2024.

“I want to thank members of the public for their patience while we investigated this serious crash.

“Anyone with information should call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0814 of 29 December, 2024.”
