The Laurel and Hardy appreciation society, known as the Sons of the Desert (after the 1933 Laurel and Hardy movie) with local clubs known as tents (all named after Laurel and Hardy films).

The Paisley based ‘tent’ is Bonnie Scotland tent, which is the oldest existing ‘tent’ in the UK and celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026.  It meets at 7:30pm in the Tartan Rose pub in Broomlands Street, Paisley to show Laurel and Hardy films.

Janice Hawton, – Grand Sheikh of the Paisley based Bonnie Scotland tent of the Sons of the Desert (Laurel & Hardy fanclub), said: “We raise money throughout the year with raffles at our monthly meetings and at our recent late Christmas event we agreed to donate money to two of our favourite causes – RAMH and the Underheugh Ark Rescue (animal welfare charity)”

“The money raised at all our raffles is used to support good causes, one of which is RAMH based in Paisley.  One of our former members – Kenny McMaster who died a few years ago was a great supporter of this organisation and we were happy to send a donation of £200 to them in his memory.

“We were delighted that RAMH replied with a certificate (attached), thanking us for our donation but we’d really like to thank them for the support they give to people across Renfrewshire.

“We also sent a similar amount to the Underheugh Ark Rescue which is an established animal charity based in the west coast of Scotland which is another one of our favourite charities.”
