There was a heavy police presence in Johnstone tonight after a man climbed onto the roof of a supermarket and refused to come down.

The man appears to have been injured and was thought to have been involved in an altercation earlier in the evening.

The male, dressed only in shorts and appeared to be in distress, came down from the roof of a Lidi Supermarket at High Street, Johnstone  just before 11pm and was taken away by police.

A large part of Walkinshaw Street is currently closed off by officers. A police helicopter, many police units and ambulance emergency response units were on the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received a report of a man causing a disturbance in the High Street and Walkinshaw Street areas of Johnstone around 7.55pm on Tuesday, 1 April, 2025.

“Officers attended and a 32-year-old man was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

“The man is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court today, Wednesday, 2 April.”
