Councillor James MacLaren is encouraging residents in Bridge of Weir to attend a meeting next month to discuss the prospect of a Men’s Shed.
The Scottish Conservative and Unionist councillor – who believes that a Men’s Shed would be a great addition to the area – is inviting those interested to go along to the Freeland Church at 11am on Monday 11th December, where it is expected a Men’s Shed committee will be formed.
Councillor MacLaren says that other examples of Men’s Sheds across Scotland have helped reduce social isolation among men and would bring “great benefits” to the local community.
The pavilion in the Houston Road park is the frontrunner for the Men’s Shed to be located in.
Councillor MacLaren added that he hoped there would be a “strong degree of interest” in next month’s meeting to hopefully see a new year herald plans for a Men’s Shed to get off the ground.
James added: “It is really pleasing to see a meeting is planned to discuss plans for a Men’s Shed in Bridge of Weir.
“I’d encourage any resident interested in helping to set up one – potentially in the park in Houston Road – to go along on December 11th to Freeland Church.
“I believe a Men’s Shed would be fantastic for Bridge of Weir and bring great benefits to the local community.
“They have helped to reduce social isolation in many places across Scotland and have helped to bring people together during challenging times.
“I hope this meeting will help kickstart plans for a Men’s Shed and see them come to fruition in the New Year in Bridge of Weir.”
