Employers across Scotland are being encouraged to boost workforce development with UWS Skills Scholarships.

These fully funded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules, known as Skills Scholarships, support the professional development of Scotland’s workforce and are being offered by the University of the West of Scotland’s (UWS) Centre for Continuing Professional Development.

With courses starting in September, UWS aims to provide industry-relevant education at no cost to employers or individuals.

This initiative comes at a crucial time, as the recent UWS Employer Skills Survey found that 60% of respondents face barriers in accessing funding for staff training.

The sudden withdrawal of the Flexible Workforce Development Fund and the Upskilling Fund by the Scottish Government has further strained employers’ budgets for essential staff development.

The Skills Scholarships initiative enables employers to offer quality, industry-led training without incurring additional costs.

Johnny Mone, Head of Business Innovation at UWS, commented: ” UWS is committed to making continuing professional development accessible to all.

“Our Skills Scholarships will empower organisations by providing crucial training opportunities, helping to close the skills gap across Scotland.”

“For individuals looking to boost their career prospects, this is a unique opportunity to access top-tier professional development.

“I want to encourage anyone interested in increasing their skillset and professional development to explore the opportunities available and apply as soon as possible.”

To apply for a Skills Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must not have previously studied at UWS
  • Must be ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands, or the Isle of Man for the three years immediately before the relevant date
  • Must have ‘settled status’ in the UK (as per the Immigration Act 1971) on the relevant date

The UWS Skills Scholarships will allow individuals to access one CPD module from a select catalogue at no cost. Awards are subject to availability and eligibility criteria.
