A man has been arrested in connection with a spate of break-ins to cars targeting mostly taxis across Johnstone and Linwood.

Police Scotland officers responded to a live break-in at a car on Quarrelton Road in Johnstone at 3.10am on Friday morning.

A 46-year-old man was subsequently traced in the area and was arrested and later charged with with 18 thefts and vandalisms to cars in Linwood and Johnstone between Wednesday, 4th September and Friday, 20th September.

Many of the incidents involved taxis.

He appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday.

Inspector Lorna McLaren said: “We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Renfrewshire. This arrest is a result of the efforts of local officers and members of the community being vigilant.

“We would remind residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police. Please also ensure any cash or valuable items are removed from your car when parked and park in well lit areas where possible.”
