Celebrations were in order for Renfrew Burgh Band recently, as the band rounded off its competition season in style.

The band took home several prizes from its outing at the Borders Entertainment Contest in Innerleithen, following a successful outing.

Principal cornet player, Ash Paton, was awarded Best Soloist and Best Solo Cornet after her sparkling rendition of Miss Blue Bonnet, by Frank Simon.

The band also took home the Best Deportment Prize, after members donned some fetching ’80s fashion accessories during the performance of Bangles hit, Walk Like an Egyptian. Also featured in the programme were the hymn tune, Slane (Be Thou My Vision) and music from the film, Brave.

Musical director Mark Good commented: “Renfrew Burgh Band members acquitted themselves really well on their travels, turning in an excellent performance amid a tough field of competition.

“Since returning after the summer break, it’s been a busy spell for members of the Burgh Band, but they have risen to the occasion, doing Renfrew proud wherever they go, and we look forward to continuing doing so in the weeks and months ahead.”

The band has now turned its attention to the festive season, having already started to perform Christmas carols to entertain local shoppers.

It is also performing in a Christmas concert at Neilston Parish Church on Sunday, December 8, to which all are welcome. The event starts at 3pm, and will see Renfrew Burgh Band perform a programme of festive music for all the family. Entry is free; donations are welcome.

On Saturday, December 14, the band is hosting a pensioners lunch in the McMaster Centre, Renfrew. The event is free and will include a light lunch, refreshments and entertainment. Go to ticketsource.co.uk and search for Renfrew Burgh Band for more information.
