A driver is to stand trial accused of killing a grandfather.
Callum Fox is charged with hitting James Patterson, 63, as he walked in the Foxbar area of Paisley on 27th November, 2022.
The 28 year-old is said to have been behind the wheel of a Mercedes while “impaired” by alcohol.
It is claimed Fox went at grossly excessive speeds and overtook a taxi when it was unsafe to do so.
Prosecutors allege he did not keep the motor under proper control and ended up at one stage on the opposite side of the road.
Fox is said not to have reacted to the presence of Mr Patterson – then a pedestrian on the roadway in the town’s Brediland Road.
It is claimed Fox did not take “evasive action” and hit the man.
The indictment states Mr Patterson – a former shipbuilding worker – was left so severely hurt that he passed away at the scene.
The case called for a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow yesterday where Fox faced a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
His KC John Scullion said: “He pleads not guilty. The defence are ready for a trial to be fixed.”
Prosecutor Alex Prentice KC also agreed a trial should be set.
Lord Armstrong scheduled a date for November this year in Glasgow.
The case could last up to five days.
Fox, also of Paisley, remains on bail meantime.
