A violent sex attacker who put three women through horrific ordeals has been jailed for almost 14 years.

Liam Sharpe tormented his victims during crimes a judge branded “cruel, threatening and intimidating”.

The 37 year-old campaign of abuse spanned between December 2013 and January 2023.

Sharpe struck at various places including in Mothewell and Coatbridge, both Lanarkshire as well as Barrhead in East Renfrewshire.

He repeatedly raped the first victim after constantly demanding sex with her.

One attack occurred following him hitting her and spitting on her as well restraining the woman.

This female’s suffering at his violent hands further included Sharpe threatening her and accusing her of infidelity.

Sharpe raped the second woman while she was asleep. He struck again after hurling derogatory remarks at her.

The thug would regularly lash out at the final abuse survivor.

Jurors heard he would go on jealous rants, control who she spoke to and isolate her from family and friends.

He threatened to disclose an intimate recording of the woman to her work, relatives and even her child’s school.

The violence included being punched, choked with a cable and him driving over her foot with his car.

He also went on to repeatedly rape this woman.

Sharpe was latterly on four bail orders at the time.

He today appeared at the High Court in Glasgow having earlier been convicted of a total of nine charges.

Victims were at the hearing to see Judge Gillian Wade KC sentence Sharpe to a total of 13 years and 10 months.

He is already serving a sentence for other matters.

Judge Wade stated: “I have had the benefit of victim impact statements which make clear the profound and lasting effect your behaviour has had upon them.

“Your behaviour…was cruel, threatening and intimidating.

“Your paranoia and propensity to violence was self-evident.”

Sharpe will also be monitored for five years on his eventual release.

He was put on the sex offenders list and banned from approaching or contacting the women – both for an indefinite period.

Sharpe smiled and made a remark towards one of the victims as he was lead back to the cells.
