A driver involved in a horror smash was fined £850 today.
Kevin Gallacher, 23, collided with a car then spun into a pedestrian crossing in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, on 9th March,.
Gallacher, of Barrhead, was behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Corsa while driving at an excessive speed.
CCTV showed Gallacher’s car and another vehicle neck and neck on the approach to a set of traffic lights.
Gallacher swerved towards the other vehicle driven by Sarah Cuthbertson.
His car was then seen to spin before striking a post and barriers at the pedestrian crossing.
Extensive damage as well as smoke was noted to billow out of Gallacher’s vehicle while he hobbled out of the driver’s side.
Gallacher suffered bruising as a result of the crash.
First offender Gallacher pled guilty today/yesterday at Glasgow Sheriff Court to dangerous driving.
Abby Russell, defending, told the court: “Mr Gallacher thought that he could go in the other lane which is what caused this.
“This was a lack of judgement.
“There seems to be a bit of road rage in relation to the other driver but my client accepts that his actions caused the incident.”
Sheriff Gerard Bonnar disqualified construction worker Gallacher from driving for 12 months as well as imposing the fine.
