Police Scotland Preventions and Interventions Team has held a number of events in the area alongside Renfrewshire Trading Standards offering free advice on a range of safety topics.

The events took place this week at Tesco in Linwood and the Piazza Shopping Centre in Paisley.

Valuable advice on a range of safety topics, including housebreaking prevention, scams and frauds, vehicle crime, bike registration was shared on the day.

Housebreaking can be a deeply distressing experience for victims and can happen at any time of the year.

As we move into the spring and summer months, residents are encouraged to maintain robust home security measures.

Officers emphasised simple yet effective crime prevention tips to reduce the risk of becoming a target:

  • Keep windows and doors locked and remove keys from locks near glazing
  • Secure sheds and garages with high-quality locks
  • Ensure outdoor security lighting is functional
  • Avoid leaving tools or items outside that could aid a thief in gaining entry
  • Record and security mark valuable possessions
  • Refrain from advertising an empty house on social media.
  • Secure your vehicle and remove valuables from inside.
