The Johnstone community are being asked to help their local Scout Group save their hall.

The roof contains asbestos and new legislation is set to come into force which may mean the building may be destroyed.

The group have around 50 days to raise £25,000 for the removal of the asbestos and the repairs that need to be carried out.

Donations are welcomed but another way that the public can help is by voting for the Johnstone Scouts to be awarded money from an Insurance company who are giving out four grants to community projects.

If the money was awarded they would use it to  make the hall safe by removing the asbestos and replace the entire roof to ensure the hall is weatherproof and prevent further damage to the building.

As well as the above they would also modernise and redecorate the interior. Repairs would be made to the hall floor, a brand new kitchen and updated toilet facilities.

The outside of the building would be painted to help weatherproof it and improve the appearance of the hall.

You can click here to be taken to the Engage Mutual Assurance website. You need to register and this only takes a few minutes.

Voting will end next month and the Scouts will need to wait until June to find out if they have been awarded the grant.

If you would like to donate please contact Alisdair Connell at johnstonescouts@hotmail.com.
