A local councillor is backing events taking place in his ward to mark King Charles’ Coronation weekend.
Scottish Conservative and Unionist Councillor David McGonigle says that the events being organised in his ward will showcase community spirit “at its very best” and be a show fit for His Majesty.
Some of the things taking part in his ward include every Primary School child and nursery pupil in Linwood will receive a free commemorative coin to mark the King’s Coronation – issued by Linwood Community Council.

An event will also be held on Sunday 7th May between 1pm and 5pm which is being described as the Coronation Big Lunch.
It will be held at Linwood Welfare Social Club on Napier Street and is free to attend. Face painting artists and magicians will be there while barbecue food and bouncy castles will also be available to enjoy.
The Linwood War Memorial Association are also holding a tombola with all funds going to the local war memorial fund.
A cake competition being organised by Houston Community Council, also on Sunday 7th May at 2pm.
It will take place at the River Inn where all are welcome. The Community Council are encouraging people to enter their best decorated sponges or cup cakes in three categories – age 11 and under, age 12-17 and age 18 plus.
Councillor McGonigle told Renfrewshire News: “I am proud to be backing these community-led events throughout my ward to mark King Charles’ upcoming Coronation.
“I am extremely happy to spread the word and encourage everyone to get involved in them – whether that is in Linwood’s Coronation Lunch or Houston’s cake competition.
“It is also incredible that every primary and nursery pupil will be given a coin to mark the coronation thanks to the community council.
“These events will showcase the community spirit in my ward at its very best and will be fit for His Majesty.
“I cannot wait to take part and only hope the sun is shining that weekend which would be the icing on the cake.”
