Alzheimer Scotland are calling on the people of Renfrewshire to get the kettle on and get talking about dementia.
Communities across Scotland are encouraged to host a coffee morning, afternoon tea or bake sale as a Tea & Blether event to raise funds during Dementia Awareness Week from 29th May to 4th June or any date in June.
It’s simple: Pick a date, a place and gather your favourite people together for a chat over a cuppa and a slice of cake (or more!). Register your Tea & Blether online at blether.alzscot.org and you’ll get access to a great fundraising guide, editable poster, printyour-own bunting and even some recipes to get you started.
Alzheimer Scotland’s Dementia Resource Centres will also be running Tea & Blether events across the country to mark Dementia Awareness Week. This year’s theme for Dementia Awareness Week is ‘One thing, not everything’, urging the public to see the person beyond the diagnosis. Dementia does not discriminate – nor should we.
At work or school, in your home or community – Tea & Blether can happen anywhere.
Every cuppa poured, cake eaten, and experience shared will help to ensure that nobody faces dementia alone. Every penny raised will be spent in Scotland.
Kirsty Stewart, Executive Lead for Stakeholder Engagement at Alzheimer Scotland, said: “We are delighted to bring back this annual campaign. Tea & Blether is all about reaching out and connecting with other people, to talk about and share your experiences of dementia, without fear, discrimination or judgement.
“Whether you are a person living with dementia, a carer, family member or person worried about your memory, this is a perfect opportunity to connect with Alzheimer Scotland and the dementia community.
“Alzheimer Scotland will be hosting Tea & Blethers in our Dementia Resource Centres throughout Dementia Awareness week, or you could host your own Tea & Blether for family and friends, or the local community, throughout the month of June. Either way, we are here to support you.
“We are really looking forward to bringing the dementia community together, to raise awareness and vital funds for brain health and dementia care. Here’s to even more cuppas, cakes and blethering than before.”
