A team of 14 volunteers from Taylor Wimpey West Scotland recently donated their time to volunteer at The Good Shepherd Centre in Bishopton to clear and transform its outdoor space.
Organised by Taylor Wimpey West Scotland’s Young Person’s Forum, who last year donated books and £1,000 to the centre, during two days representatives from throughout Taylor Wimpey West Scotland’s business worked together to clear a large space of land that will be resurfaced with bark to create an outdoor area for BBQs.
The team also cleared a number of garden planters that had become overgrown, and these will form part of a gardening programme the young people at The Good Shepherd Centre will undertake next year to grow their own produce.
The Good Shepherd Centre is a Scottish charity that provides a secure and intensive service for vulnerable young people based in Bishopton, Renfrewshire. Its purpose is to provide a positive, life changing experience for young people through individual care, education and skills development.
Robert Clark, Head of Intensive Support & Throughcare at The Good Shepherd Centre said: “We are extremely grateful for the support that we have received from Taylor.
Wimpey, and we can’t thank their team enough for volunteering their time to complete this incredible transformation of our outdoor space which had become so overgrown that we couldn’t use it to its full potential.
“We have some exciting plans of how we hope the young people will use the outdoor space, and the work the team from Taylor Wimpey has helped us massively in reaching our end goal of creating a multi-functional space where we can all enjoy the health benefits of being outside in the garden.”
Amy Morrison, Finance Assistant and committee member of the Young Persons’ Forum at Taylor Wimpey West Scotland said: “We are delighted to be able to show our support for The Good Shepherd Centre in this way, and we are so pleased they will now be able to get much better use of their outdoor space.
“Our appeal for volunteers from across our business to help with this project generated an incredible response and 14 members of staff rolled up their sleeves for two days of hard work.
“We know our efforts will go a long way in facilitating the future plans The Good Shepherd Centre has for their outdoor areas, and we’re collectively really proud of our efforts to help them achieve their ambition for these spaces which will ultimately benefit every young person using their service.
“The work we do is a lot more than just building high-quality homes. Being able to work with local organisations that surround our developments means a great deal to us and it’s great to know that we are helping to make a difference to the lives of people in local communities.”
