Pollok Football Club will pay tribute to long-serving committee member Archie McDougall at their home match against Beith today.<\/p>\n
Archie, who passed away recently at the age of 82, was a familiar and much-loved face at Newlandsfield. In his memory, the club will feature a special tribute cover on the matchday programme and will hold a minute\u2019s applause before kick-off.<\/p>\n
Archie\u2019s football journey began in his youth, sneaking into games at Firhill and Ibrox. Although he once held a season ticket at Firhill, he gave it up when the spark of enjoyment faded. That spark reignited more than 50 years ago when former Pollok president Gordon Ritchie introduced him to Pollok FC \u2013 and from that point on, his heart belonged to the Southside club.<\/p>\n
Over the decades, Archie became a dedicated supporter and valued volunteer. He remained actively involved in the club right up until his passing, still manning the front door before matches earlier this year. He was also known for calling his friend Fergie Watt with score updates at half-time and full-time, and when Fergie could no longer attend games, Archie made sure his daughter Valerie could take his place.<\/p>\n
Last season, Archie was presented with the Supporters\u2019 Ambassador award by manager Stewart Maxwell at an away game to Auchinleck Talbot. Despite the result that day, he called it his favourite Pollok memory \u2013 and proudly displayed the award on his windowsill.<\/p>\n
Club President Paul Regan, at the time of his death in June, said: \u201cArchie was the friendly face that welcomed players, officials, referees and supporters to Newlandsfield for a number of years.<\/p>\n
“Whether with a joke, a story, or a card trick, he was always great company, and it was fitting that he was able to attend our final league game where we as a club were able to show our appreciation to him before his passing.<\/p>\n
\u201cComing so soon after the passing of his dear friend Fergie, this loss represents the passing of another true Pollok man, who embodied so much of what is good about this club. His determination to keep coming to games right to the end was inspiring, and he was a genuine joy to spend time with. He will be very sorely missed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Supporters are encouraged to arrive ahead of the 2pm kick-off to join the club in remembering Archie and the incredible legacy he leaves behind.<\/p>\n
