Renfrew Ladies will bring their Sky Sports Cup campaign to a close on Sunday when they welcome St Johnstone to Holm Park.<\/p>\n
The newly promoted side have endured a difficult start to the competition, losing all three of their opening matches to sit 14th in the standings without a point.<\/p>\n
Their campaign began with a 3-0 defeat away to Dundee United on Sunday, 26th July. That was followed by an 8-0 home loss to Hamilton Academical before Wednesday night’s 4-0 defeat away to Spartans.<\/p>\n
Those results have left Renfrew with a goal difference of -15 heading into the final round of fixtures.<\/p>\n
The Sky Sports Cup features 14 teams, with each side playing four matches. The top six teams at the end of the group stage will qualify automatically for the next round, while those finishing between seventh and 10th will enter knockout play-offs. Teams in 11th to 14th will be eliminated.<\/p>\n
With just one match remaining, Renfrew’s hopes of progressing are all but over. Bottom of the standings on zero points, they would need an extraordinary victory over St Johnstone, along with a favourable set of results elsewhere, to have any realistic chance of climbing into the play-off places.<\/p>\n
Instead, Sunday’s fixture is likely to be Renfrew’s final outing in this season’s competition before attention turns to their Scottish Women’s Premier League 2 campaign, which begins the following weekend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
