Johnstone Burgh fought back from 4-1 down to draw 4-4 with Cumbernauld Colts in their Scottish Lowland League West fixture at Broadwood Stadium, Cumbernauld.<\/p>\n

Burgh manager Stevie Farrell made eight changes from the starting XI that beat Saint Anthony’s 2-0 at McKenna Park on Saturday, 5th September.<\/p>\n

Out went Luke Scullion, Scott Williamson, Leon Murphy, Scott Forrester, Lewis King, Noah Grady, Max Kerr and Gabriel Nosa. In came Brett Long, Kian Gilday, Mark Durnan, Mark Barrowman, Ian McShane, Malky McDonald, Broque Watson and Aaron Mason.<\/p>\n

New signing Sam Jamieson, who joined the club from Troon, started the match on the bench.<\/p>\n

Cumbernauld Colts had the first chance in the second minute when the ball broke to Jamie Semple just inside the box. His right-foot shot from 16 yards went well wide of the right-hand post and out for a throw-in.<\/p>\n

Johnstone Burgh had their first chance in the seventh minute when Stuart Faulds’ low cross into the box from the right was dummied by Aaron Mason, giving Broque Watson a chance, but his low right-foot shot from 14 yards was well blocked.<\/p>\n

The home side opened the scoring in the 11th minute as Jude Freel collected the ball just inside his own half before turning brilliantly to give himself space to go on a driving run towards goal.<\/p>\n

He then put through a fine pass to Harrison Howe, who ran into the box and took the ball past Kian Gilday before producing a cool right-foot finish into the bottom left-hand corner of the net from eight yards.<\/p>\n

Burgh came close to levelling in the 24th minute when Mason went on a brilliant run down the left wing before putting a dangerous left-foot cross into the box for Del Esplin, but his first-time right-foot shot from six yards was well saved by Cumbernauld Colts goalkeeper David Wilson.<\/p>\n

Johnstone Burgh equalised in the 27th minute. Ian McShane’s right-foot free-kick from around 25 yards, in the centre of the pitch, found Mark Durnan at the back post and he nodded the ball into the left-hand corner of the net from six yards.<\/p>\n

A minute later, Cumbernauld Colts regained the lead with a sensational goal. Durnan’s poor clearance fell straight to Semple just outside the box, and he fired an unstoppable right-foot shot on the half-volley into the top left-hand corner of the net off the post.<\/p>\n

Cumbernauld Colts scored their third goal in the 43rd minute when Aiden McLaughlin’s miss-hit left-foot shot from 20 yards fell to Thomas Horn, who showed great close control before firing a right-foot shot into the left side of the net from seven yards.<\/p>\n

The final chance of the first half came for the home side in the 45th minute. McLaughlin’s corner from the left found Colts captain Callum Home, but his header from six yards went just wide of the left-hand post.<\/p>\n

After a low-key start to the second half, Cumbernauld Colts extended their lead in the 58th minute.<\/p>\n

A long ball from Home, deep inside his own half, found Horn, who nicked the ball past the onrushing Brett Long before rolling a left-foot shot from around 10 yards into the empty net.<\/p>\n

Despite being three goals down, Burgh continued to fight and had the next chance in the 63rd minute.<\/p>\n

Faulds’ defence-splitting pass from inside his own half put Malky McDonald through on goal, but his high right-foot shot from 10 yards hit the inside of the right-hand post, then the outside of the left-hand post, without crossing the line.<\/p>\n

Johnstone Burgh reduced the deficit in the 70th minute. Max Kerr’s cross from the left was punched clear by Wilson, but the ball fell straight to Mason, who lashed a low first-time shot into the bottom right-hand corner of the net from 17 yards.<\/p>\n

Burgh came close again in the 72nd minute as substitute Sam Jamieson, making his debut for the club, put a fine pass through to Gabriel Nosa, but his left-foot shot from eight yards was cleared off the line by Jack Devlin.<\/p>\n

Johnstone Burgh scored their third goal in the 80th minute. McDonald’s fine pass found McShane on the left-hand side of the box.<\/p>\n

McShane fired the ball low and hard across the face of goal, where it was diverted high into the net from six yards by Oliver Hynd for an own goal.<\/p>\n

Burgh completed their comeback in the 84th minute. Max Kerr’s corner from the right found Durnan, who headed the ball into the left-hand corner of the net from five yards for his second goal of the match.<\/p>\n

Johnstone Burgh then had a chance to win the match in the second minute of added time.<\/p>\n

Nosa’s headed flick-on near the halfway line released Mason for a clear run through on goal. Mason went for goal, but his powerful right-foot shot from 16 yards was saved by Wilson to ensure the points were shared.<\/p>\n

The result leaves Johnstone Burgh eighth in the table on 12 points after seven matches.<\/p>\n

Johnstone Burgh are next in action away to Troon at Portland Park in the Scottish Lowland League West on Wednesday, 16th September, with kick-off at 7.45pm.<\/p>\n
