Johnstone Burgh manager Stevie Farrell says there are still “mountains of work to do” despite his side securing a 3-2 victory over Newton Stewart.
Burgh collected all three points in their Scottish Lowland League West match at Keanie Park on Saturday, 22nd August.
Farrell was pleased to get the victory and felt his side controlled large parts of the match, but was disappointed with how they started the second half.
He said: “It’s a strange one. I’ve said that to the players. You take the three points, as that’s the positive, and ultimately we controlled large parts of the game.
“But I’m disappointed, particularly with the start of the second half. That was the same against Albion Rovers. We had so much control of the game in the first half against Albion. We had so much control of the game again today.
“We scored the two goals. I thought we should have been better at the top end of the pitch in terms of the first half, and we probably could have been in front by more than two goals.
“But I thought, in terms of the game, we were in complete control and they never really caused us any bother in the first half.”
Farrell highlighted the way Burgh have started the second half of recent matches as an area which needs improvement.
He said: “But that’s the Albion Rovers game and today. In the second half, teams have just started differently against us and we’ve taken a bit of time to get to grips with that. So that’s something we really, really need to work on.
“There’s still mountains of work to do here. It’s okay, but there’s still mountains of work to do.”
Johnstone Burgh now turn their attention to another home match against Dalbeattie Star.
Farrell said his side will prepare for the game during the week, with maintaining their recent run of picking up points at home the immediate target.
He said: “Yeah, Dalbeattie Star next week. That’s all we’re focused on. We take one at a time. It’s a cliché, but it’s true.
“So we’ll get prepared now, Monday and Wednesday, and do all our analysis work in terms of Dalbeattie Star.
“It’s another home game and I’ve said to them we need to pick up points at home. We need to pick up three points.
“That’s us taking seven points from the last three at home. Two wins, and one point against Albion Rovers. So we need to continue to pick up points at home.
“But we know, looking at Dalbeattie Star today, that it’s not going to be easy. So we need to earn the right to pick up those points. Then, once we’ve done that, we’ll get ready for the next one.”
