Renfrew will make their first-ever appearance in the Scottish Cup when they welcome Broxburn Athletic to New Western Park on Saturday.

The Frew enter the Scottish Gas Men’s Scottish Cup for the first time in the club’s history, with their first-round tie kicking off at 3pm on Saturday 3rd October.

Renfrew described the occasion as a historic one for the club as they prepare to face opposition from the Scottish Lowland League East.

Broxburn travel to New Western Park sitting fourth in the Lowland League East. They have taken 22 points from their opening nine league matches, winning seven, drawing one and losing one.

They have scored 15 goals and conceded eight during that run.

Renfrew are currently 15th in the Scottish Lowland League West with seven points from 10 matches.

The Frew have already experienced two other cup competitions this season. They lost 5-3 away to Glasgow University in the first round of the South Region Challenge Cup before beating Vale of Clyde 4-3 at New Western Park in the second round of the Scottish Communities Cup.

They go into Saturday’s historic fixture following a 3-2 league defeat to local rivals Johnstone Burgh at Keanie Park last weekend.

Mark Barrowman and Aaron Mason put Burgh 2-0 ahead in that match before Renfrew scored twice in four minutes during the second half to draw level.
Thomas Orr then scored for Johnstone Burgh in the first minute of added time to give the home side all three points.

Admission for Renfrew’s Scottish Cup tie is £12 for adults and £7 for concessions. Season tickets are not valid for the match.

While Renfrew prepare to make their competition debut, Johnstone Burgh will head south for their own first-round tie against Newton Stewart.
Burgh make the 75-mile journey to Blairmount Park for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday.

Newton Stewart have had a difficult start to their first season in the Scottish Lowland League West. They sit 16th with four points from nine matches after one win, one draw and seven defeats.

Their victory came against Dalbeattie Star at Blairmount Park on 19th September, when goals from Marc Whyte and Harry Mitchell helped them come from behind to win 2-1.

Newton Stewart’s most recent match ended in a 5-0 defeat away to Caledonian Braves last Saturday.

Johnstone Burgh are seventh in the Lowland League West with 18 points from 10 games, having won five, drawn three and lost two.

The sides have already met this season. Johnstone Burgh beat Newton Stewart 3-2 at Keanie Park on 22nd August.

Since that meeting, Burgh have recorded five wins, one draw and one defeat in all competitions.

They have also enjoyed success in other cup competitions, winning 2-0 away to St Anthony’s in the South Region Challenge Cup before beating New Elgin 5-0 away from home in the Scottish Communities Cup.

Their most recent outing was last weekend’s 3-2 Renfrewshire derby victory over Renfrew, secured by Orr’s added-time goal.

Newton Stewart play on a 3G all-weather surface at Blairmount Park, which has a capacity of 1,500.

The club, nicknamed the Creesiders, are managed by Jamie Adams and finished fourth in the South of Scotland Football League last season. Marc Whyte is their leading scorer this season with three goals.

Admission at Blairmount Park on Saturday is £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.

Both Renfrewshire clubs kick off their Scottish Cup campaigns at 3pm on Saturday.
