Bishopton suffered their first league defeat of the season as Lochaber came from behind to claim a 27-21 win at Holmpark on Saturday 3rd October.The home side led 14-10 at half-time in the Arnold Clark West Region League Division 2 clash, but Lochaber fought back after the break before holding off late Bishopton pressure.
Bishopton made a positive start and put the visitors under pressure at the scrum. After winning a penalty, Kyle Robertson found touch and Bishopton continued to press inside the Lochaber 22.
The opening try came when Bishopton again gained an advantage at the scrum. Dunn worked the ball wide to Ron Young, who went over for the score. Robertson converted to give Bishopton a 7-0 lead.
Lochaber responded with a penalty to reduce the deficit to 7-3.
The visitors then worked their way into Bishopton territory and, after a succession of penalties, kicked another penalty towards the end of the half.
However, Bishopton were soon back on the attack. Lochaber returned a kick and worked the ball around the Bishopton defence before scoring a converted try to move 10-7 ahead.
Bishopton responded from the restart. A scrum five metres from the Lochaber line put the visitors under pressure before Fraser picked up from the base and crossed for the try. Robertson converted to put Bishopton 14-10 ahead at the interval.
Lochaber started the second half strongly. After winning a free kick from a scrum, they moved the ball wide and broke up the wing. A series of penalties followed before a quick tap resulted in a converted try, giving the visitors a 17-14 lead.
Lochaber extended their advantage after another penalty. They tapped and drove at the Bishopton line before scoring another converted try to make it 24-14.
The visitors were later shown a yellow card for a high tackle as Bishopton looked for a way back into the contest.
Bishopton applied pressure inside the Lochaber 22, with Craig making an interception to put the home side back on the front foot. Further penalties followed as Bishopton pushed towards the line.
Their pressure eventually produced a third try. Carey took a quick tap before the ball was moved wide, with Dunn finding Glassford to score in the corner. Robertson added his third conversion to reduce the deficit to 24-21.
Lochaber responded immediately. They won possession following the restart and kicked a penalty to restore their six-point advantage at 27-21.
Bishopton had one final opportunity when Dunn kicked a penalty into the corner with around a minute remaining.
However, the resulting lineout did not travel the required five metres and Lochaber were awarded an uncontested scrum, bringing Bishopton’s final attack to an end.
The result ended Bishopton’s winning start to the league campaign. They remained top of West Region League Division 2 on 26 points from six matches, having recorded five wins and one defeat.
Lochaber moved to 16 points from five matches.
