Gleniffer Thistle Ladies have appointed former Elgin City director Chris Foot as a strategic growth adviser to help develop the Paisley club off the pitch.
Foot helped set up Elgin City’s women’s team, which reached the Scottish Women’s Football Championship after back-to-back promotions. Elgin announced his departure on 18th October and said he had spent five years on the board.
Gleniffer manager Neil Stafford said: “I got to know Chris after a league AGM a couple of years ago where he offered advice to clubs on how to raise their off the field profile. I reached out and he has helped me several times with advice over the last couple of years.
“When I saw that Chris had left Elgin I approached him and asked if he wanted to keep an involvement in the game but without the weekend match commitments and I’m over the moon he has agreed to come on board. If he can contribute even a fraction of what he did at Elgin City then the future is very bright for Gleniffer Thistle Ladies.”
Stafford told Renfrewshire News that Foot would do most of his work from Alford, near Aberdeen, and visit Paisley to meet people at the club. He believes attracting support in Paisley would present a different challenge because several other clubs play nearby.
Gleniffer said Foot helped bring in sponsors and attract more supporters to Elgin’s women’s matches, where crowds were typically between 150 and 300. Stafford said around 500 people attended the match against St Mirren when Elgin clinched the League One title.
