Renfrew booked their place in the next round of the Scottish Communities Cup after a seven-goal contest against Vale of Clyde at New Western Park.
Renfrew won 4-3 on Saturday, 19th September, with Jordan Moore scoring twice alongside goals from Alan Cook and Aedan Gilfedder.
Cook opened the scoring when his cross from the left evaded everyone and found the net. He almost added another moments later when a drive from around 30 yards struck the crossbar.
Renfrew doubled their advantage through Moore. Al Doyle provided the pass before Moore applied the finish to make it 2-0.
Vale of Clyde pulled a goal back through Alessandro Saverese before the interval, leaving Renfrew 2-1 ahead at half-time.
The visitors were level within the first minute of the second half. A ball across the Renfrew box was finished by Aidan Cannon to make it 2-2.
Renfrew responded and regained the lead through substitute Gilfedder, who found the top corner with a strike from just outside the box.
Moore then scored his second of the afternoon to extend Renfrew’s advantage to 4-2.
Vale of Clyde were given another route back into the cup tie when an own goal reduced the deficit to 4-3.
The visitors pushed for an equaliser and went close when a low cross travelled across the Renfrew goal without any of three attacking players managing to turn it home.
Vale also had the ball in the net late in the match, but the assistant referee’s flag was raised for offside.
Renfrew held on to secure a 4-3 victory and progress in the Scottish Communities Cup.
Elsewhere in the second round, Johnstone Burgh also progressed with a 5-0 victory away to New Elgin, while Paisley side Glenvale’s cup run came to an end following an 8-0 defeat away to Broughty Athletic.
Renfrew return to Lowland League West action on Wednesday, 23rd September, when they host Beith Juniors at 7.45pm.
Johnstone Burgh are also in league action that evening, travelling to face Largs Thistle for a 7.15pm kick-off.
