Bishopton and St Mirren booked their places in the quarter-finals of the ScottishPower National League Cup on Sunday, while Renfrew Ladies and Houston United were both in league action.

The cup brought wins for Bishopton and St Mirren, but it was a more difficult afternoon in the leagues. Renfrew were beaten 5-1 away to Falkirk Women, while Houston United lost 5-0 at home to Dumbarton. Gleniffer Thistle WFC did not play this weekend.

Barclays Scottish Women’s League One leaders Bishopton continued their strong start to the season with a 5-1 victory over Giffnock Soccer Centre.

Frankie Fern scored a hat-trick for Bishopton, with Henry and Stewart also on the scoresheet.

Fern was named the referee’s player of the match.

Giffnock’s goal came from Olivia Jones-Burns, but Bishopton went on to secure their place in the last eight.

The result continues Bishopton’s strong start to the season. They currently lead Barclays Scottish Women’s League One with five wins from five matches.

They have scored 32 league goals and conceded just three, giving them 15 points. Queen of the South also have 15 points but have played seven matches compared with Bishopton’s five.

St Mirren also reached the quarter-finals after a 3-1 away victory over Championship side Forfar Farmington at Station Park.

Sandra Craig headed St Mirren in front before turning provider for Casey Canning to double their advantage.

Forfar pulled one back through Alexandra Fox before half-time.

Canning restored St Mirren’s two-goal lead in the second half, scoring from a Praise Adebo assist to complete her double and make it 3-1.

The Buddies sit fifth in League One after five matches, with three wins and two defeats. They have scored 18 goals and conceded nine.

Bishopton and St Mirren are the two Renfrewshire sides through to the quarter-finals and will now await the draw for the next round.

In league action, Renfrew Ladies were beaten 5-1 by Falkirk Women at The Falkirk Stadium.

Seren McCulloch gave Falkirk the lead after 25 minutes and the hosts took their 1-0 advantage into half-time.

McCulloch added her second in the 57th minute before substitute Kasha Gronowska Butz made it 3-0 eight minutes later.

Renfrew pulled a goal back in the 76th minute through Rachael McConnachie, who scored at the back post to reduce the deficit to 3-1.

Falkirk responded almost immediately. Gronowska Butz scored again in the 77th minute before completing her hat-trick a minute later to make it 5-1.

Gronowska Butz was named Falkirk’s player of the match.

The result leaves Renfrew 10th in the table with one point from seven matches.

Renfrew are due to return to action on Sunday, 18th October when they host Livingston at Holm Park, with kick-off at 2pm.

In the SWFL Central-West, Houston United were beaten 5-0 at home by Dumbarton at Ardgyrffe Park.

The result leaves Houston 11th in the table after defeats in their opening two league matches.

Dumbarton moved on to three points from two games and sit sixth.

Elsewhere in the Central-West, Alloa Athletic beat Carron Ladies 11-0, while Cumbernauld Colts and Murieston United drew 2-2.

Gleniffer Thistle WFC did not play this weekend.
