Ashfield vs Ardeer Thistle – abandoned due to a serious knee injury to Ashfield goalkeeper Lewis Sanderson

Ashfield’s West of Scotland Football League Second Division match against Ardeer Thistle was abandoned on Tuesday, 11th August 2026, following a serious knee injury to goalkeeper Lewis Sanderson.

The match was being played at Stepford Park, with Ashfield leading 2-1 when play was stopped.

Ashfield later confirmed that the match had been abandoned because of the injury to Sanderson.

The club said its thoughts were with Lewis and wished him a full and speedy recovery.

Ashfield also thanked Ardeer Thistle’s coaching staff for their assistance and support during the incident.

Earlier updates from the match had Ashfield leading 2-0 before Ardeer Thistle reduced the deficit. The fixture was subsequently recorded as abandoned.
