A Renfrewshire derby between Johnstone Burgh and Renfrew is among the local football fixtures this weekend, while several of the area’s men’s and women’s teams are also in league action.
Johnstone Burgh welcome Renfrew to Keanie Park on Saturday, 26th September, for their 10th Scottish Lowland League West fixture of the season.
The sides last met at Keanie Park on Wednesday, 15th April, when Renfrew claimed a 3-2 victory in the WoSFL Premier Division.
Goals from Aiden Malcolm and David McCallum gave Renfrew a 2-0 half-time lead before Burgh fought back through Broque Watson and Jude Cummins.
Malcolm then scored his second of the match in the 96th minute to give Renfrew all three points.
Jimmy Quigley’s Renfrew side go into the derby on a three-match winning run.
They recorded their first league victory of the season with a 3-1 win away to Pollok before beating Vale of Clyde 4-3 in the Scottish Communities Cup.
Renfrew followed that with a 3-0 home victory over Beith on Wednesday, 23rd September.
They sit 14th in the Scottish Lowland League West with seven points from nine matches.
Johnstone Burgh go into Saturday’s match following a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Largs Thistle on Wednesday.
Before that defeat, Stevie Farrell’s side had gone six matches unbeaten in all competitions, with five wins and one draw.
The derby kicks off at 3:00pm. Admission at Keanie Park is £12 for adults and £7 for concessions, with under-16s admitted free.
There is also West of Scotland Football League action on Saturday.
Thorn Athletic travel to Meadow Park to face Threave Rovers in the First Division, with kick-off at 2:00pm.
Threave are fourth in the table with 13 points from six matches, while Thorn are eighth with 11 points from six.
The sides met twice in the league last season, with Thorn winning 2-1 at home before Threave won the return fixture 5-2.
Glenvale are at home to East Kilbride YM in the Third Division, with the match at Ferguslie Park kicking off at 2:00pm.
Glenvale are second in the table with 14 points from six matches, one point ahead of third-placed East Kilbride YM.
The women’s game takes centre stage on Sunday, 27th September, with Renfrewshire clubs involved across three divisions.
In SWPL 2, Renfrew Ladies travel to face Gartcairn WFC.
Renfrew are ninth in the table with one point from five matches, while Gartcairn are eighth with three points from four.
Renfrew’s most recent league match ended in a 4-0 home defeat against Boroughmuir Thistle on Sunday, 20th September.
In SWF League One, St Mirren WFC travel to face Huntly WFC, while Bishopton Ladies are away to Dunfermline Athletic WFC.
St Mirren have three points from their opening two league matches. Their last league outing was a 5-0 victory over Dunfermline Athletic WFC on 23rd August.
Bishopton have made a perfect start to their league campaign, winning both of their opening two matches. They sit top of the table with six points.
Sunday also marks the start of the SWF Central-West league season.
Houston United WFC begin their campaign away to Drumchapel United WFC, while Gleniffer Thistle WFC travel to face Dumbarton WFC.
