Gleniffer Thistle recorded a 6-1 victory over Houston United in the SWFL Central-West on Sunday 18th October, while Renfrew Ladies and St Mirren FC Women both suffered home defeats in their respective leagues.
Bishopton Ladies were not in action after their Scottish Women’s League One fixture against Edinburgh South was postponed.
Gleniffer secured their second league victory of the season with a 6-1 win over Houston United at Ferguslie Sports Centre.
Sara Paterson and Tasha Marshall scored twice each, with Colleen Cossar and Marci MacKay also on target for the home side.
Paterson opened the scoring after cutting in from the left and firing into the top corner.
Gleniffer continued to create chances, although Houston remained competitive and made it difficult for the home side at times.
Marshall doubled Gleniffer’s lead after receiving a pass from Paterson and finishing from the edge of the box.
Paterson then scored her second after collecting the ball in midfield and driving past two players before finishing.
She was also involved in the fourth goal, passing to Marshall on the left. Marshall set up Cossar, who scored from the edge of the box.
Paterson helped create Gleniffer’s fifth, running at the Houston defence before squaring the ball for Marshall to finish from close range.
Houston pulled a goal back before half-time following a move down the right, with the ball played into the box and converted.
Gleniffer led 5-1 at the interval.
The visitors improved after the break, with Gleniffer describing the second half as a more competitive and scrappy affair.
Gleniffer switched to a back three at half-time and added a sixth goal when Marci MacKay headed home from a cross by their trialist number nine.
Paterson was named Gleniffer’s player of the match following her two goals and involvement in two further goals.
The result leaves Gleniffer second in the SWFL Central-West table with six points from two matches, behind Alloa Athletic on goal difference.
Houston remain bottom of the ten-team division, having lost their opening three league matches.
In the Scottish Women’s Premier League 2, Renfrew Ladies lost 5-0 to Livingston at Holm Park.
Kaitlyn Canavan gave Livingston a 1-0 half-time lead before the visitors added four more goals after the break.
Canavan and Vivienne Strain both scored twice, with Justine Strain also on target. Livingston’s fourth goal came from the penalty spot.
It was Livingston’s first league victory of the season, moving them into ninth place with four points.
The defeat leaves Renfrew bottom of the ten-team division with one point from eight matches. They have scored four goals and conceded 33.
In Scottish Women’s League One, St Mirren FC Women were beaten 3-1 by Inverurie Loco Works at Mossedge Community Pitch.
The visitors took a two-goal lead in the first half, with their second goal coming in the 36th minute.
Grace Blair pulled a goal back for St Mirren in the 72nd minute after being played through by Casey Canning. Blair finished into the bottom-right corner to make it 2-1.
However, Inverurie restored their two-goal advantage six minutes later to secure the victory.
Vikki Riddell, Hannah Innes and Kayleigh Traynor were Inverurie’s goalscorers.
Following the match, St Mirren highlighted the contribution of academy players who stepped into the senior side and gained valuable match experience.
The defeat leaves St Mirren fifth with nine points from six matches, while Inverurie sit seventh with eight points from eight games.
Bishopton Ladies remain second in League One despite their scheduled fixture against Edinburgh South being postponed.
